1. MedInfo2010
MEDINFO 2010 - 13th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics; 12 to 15 September 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa - http://www.medinfo2010.org(103 days to go).
a] Registration deadlines and fees
Author registration deadline - the deadline for authors to register is 15 June, as previously advised to all who had submissions accepted: "At least one author named in your presentation must be registered by 15th June 2010 for your paper to be included in the program and proceedings"
Standard registration deadline - standard rate registration closes on 30 June. we advise people to register before then to avoid higher registration fees. The site for conference registration and accommodation booking payment is open - via the main MedInfo 2010 website (www.medinfo2010.org), or directly athttps://events.confco.co.za/ei/cm.esp?id=126&pageid=_2OO0LACU8
b] Preliminary programme
The preliminary programme (draft) for Medinfo2010 is now available on the website. It contains information on pre-conference tutorials, plenary sessions, major meetings, parallel sessions and social events. Many thanks to the SPC (especially Riccardo Bellazzi and Johanna Westbrook) and the LOC for all their work on this.
The date and time of Oral Presentations is also available to authors - please login to the conference submission website (http://medinfo2010.online-registry.net/) and click on "OVERVIEW".
c] Raising funds to support students
The CHIRAD Foundation is supporting Medinfo 2010 by raising funds for SAHIA (South African Health Informatics Association) to help students who would otherwise be unable to attend the congress. The aim of the effort to raise US$100 as a once-off personal contribution is to allow individuals, committed to the continued upliftment of health/medical informatics, to contribute a token amount to a fund specially created to sponsor students in our field. These students will be selected on merit by the LOC with input from the SPC and will typically come from disadvantaged countries where funding for prestigious events like Medinfo is non existent. Should you not be attending the congress you can also contribute. See the Medinfo2010 website for more information.
It is expected that many IMIA groups will additionally be planning meetings at Medinfo2010. Please feel free to contact imia@imia-services.org to help in publicising these activities (note: some may be by invitation only).
2. 2010 IMIA General Assembly meeting
a] Date for 2010 GA meeting
The IMIA General Assembly meeting for 2010 will be held on SUNDAY 12 SEPTEMBER in Cape Town, South Africa.
The formal invitation and notice of the meeting will be sent to all General Assembly members via the General Assembly email list on approx. Monday 07 June (ie, to member society representatives, Board members, academic and corporate member representatives, working and special interest group chairs, honorary fellows, affiliate member representatives, corresponding members, and the administrative contacts for organisations where relevant).
Please let us know as soon as possible whether you will be attending the GA meeting. If you cannot attend and wish to nominate a proxy to vote on your behalf, please provide their details, in writing, as soon as possible, to the IMIA Secretary, Dr Lyn Hanmer (Lyn.Hanmer@mrc.ac.za) and copied to the IMIA Executive Director.
b] ***IMPORTANT ITEM - IMIA Statutes revisions***
One of the key items of business to be transacted at the 2010 IMIA General Assembly meeting will be discussion and voting on adoption of the proposed revised IMIA Statutes. The IMIA Statutes are an important legal document. We have been working to bring them up to date, and to 'future proof' them. We will be sending documents out to all IMIA GA members in the next few weeks, to allow time for reading and discussion.
It is therefore important that GA members read and comment on the documents, and that we have as many IMIA Member Societies and others as possible attending the GA meeting or represented by formal proxy.
3. Membership fee invoicing
Thank you to all who have paid the 2008 and 2009 membership fee invoices that were sent out in the latter part of 2009. Some of these invoices have not yet been paid, and I will be following up on individual cases to see if there are problems, or there are errors in our records. We will start to send out the invoices for 2010 membership fees in July 2010.If any members need the invoices before then, because of their organisation's financial year, or other reasons, please let me know.
4. Forthcoming events We will generally only here mention those in 2010, unless calls for submissions for 2011 events are open. Notices of these events and others not listed here are added to the IMIA website and IMIA News website when they are announced, when calls for submissions open/close, or when there is significant new information.
