b] Sponsorship, speakers
IBM has been confirmed as a sponsor for Medinfo2010. Dr Najeeb Al-Shorbaji, Director, Department of Knowledge Management and Sharing at the World Health Organization Headquarters (WHO/HQ) has been confirmed as a keynote speaker. Further information on keynote speakers is on the Medinfo2010 website.

2. Submit your high-quality review articles to "Methods of Information in Medicine".
In a recent editorial [1] the journal "Methods of Information in Medicine" [2] revised its structure and announced that it will publish the following types of articles: - original articles; - original articles devoted to a special topic; - review articles; - white papers; - editorials.
"Methods of Information in Medicine" is an official journal of IMIA. Members of IMIA societies and organizations are in particular invited to submit high-quality review articles to the journal. The Editor and the Associate Editors of Methods will be pleased to answer any questions. Please direct all questions to:ed@MethodsInfMed.org

3. Forthcoming events We will generally only here mention those in 2010, unless calls for submissions for 2011 events are open. Notices of these events and others not listed here are added to the IMIA website and IMIA News website when they are announced, when calls for submissions open/close, or when there is significant new information.
a] IMIA Working Group and Special Interest Group activities
The IMIA Open Source Health Informatics WG and EFMI LIFOSS WG are co-organising a track that is dedicated specifically to Free/Libre Open Source Software in Health Care (FLOSS-HC) at the 8th annual Med-e-Tel conference (14-16 April 2010) (see http://www.medetel.eu/index.php?rub=educational_program&page=benefits_of_open_source_software_in_health_care)
The IMIA Health Information Systems Working Group (IMIA HIS WG) will be organising a two day workshop on Health Information Systems ? 30 Years of Evolution, that will take place on September 10-12, 2010 in Stellenbosch, South Africa, just before the Medinfo 2010 Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Further details will be advised in due course.
b] Regional events
The 2010 Special Topic Conference (STC) of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) will take place in Reykjavík, Iceland on June 2-4, 2010. The event has the theme ?Seamless care ? safe care. The challenges of interoperability and patient safety in health care? 4. 2010 dates for Board and GA members
The early 2010 IMIA Board meeting (Board members only) will be held on May 29, 2010 in Vancouver BC, Canada. Precise details will be communicated to Board members.
The 2010 Board and General Assembly meetings will be held in conjunction with Medinfo2010 in Cape Town, South Africa. The Board will meet on 11 September and the General Assembly on 12 September.
2011 General Assembly meeting, advance notice: - at the kind invitation of the hosts of MIE2011, the 2011 Board and General Assembly meetings will be held in Oslo, Norway. Precise dates will be advised. MIE2011 (www.mie2011.org) will be held on 28-31 August.
5. IMIA WG/SIG meetings at Medinfo2010
IMIA WG/SIG chairs are reminded that, if they wish to hold a business meeting at Medinfo2010, they should contact Prof. Hyeoun-Ae Park, IMIA VP for WG/SIG, as soon as possible if they have not already done so, and definitely by 31 March.
6. Thai Medical Informatics Association (TMI)
We welcome the Thai Medical Informatics Association (TMI) who have been granted provisional membership of IMIA and whose application will be presented to the Board and GA meetings this year.
7. Revised IMIA Recommendations on Education
The revised IMIA Recommendations on Education in Biomedical and Health Informatics Education, which were endorsed by the 2009 IMIA General Assembly, are now available as a free download (pdf file) in Methods of Information in Medicine. See http://imianews.wordpress.com/2010/01/07/revised-imia-education-recommendations-published/ for further information and a link to the download.
Requirements around reprinting and translations: The copyright for this document is with IMIA. Translations are encouraged. For translations as well as for all other reprints, written permission by IMIA is needed. In all reprints the original publication of the revised IMIA recommendations on education has to be quoted as the original reference. Please liaise with Dr Peter J. Murray, IMIA Executive Director, for all queries.
The recommendations have received a good response so far, with many downloads. They are already being republished and translated in several places, and we will promote these efforts when they are finalised.
8. Journals
IMIA has three official journals: Methods of Information in Medicine (http://www.methods-online.com/) and Applied Clinical Informatics (http://www.aci-journal.org/) (Schattauer Publishers Stuttgart) and Elsevier Science?s International Journal of Medical Informatics (http://www.ijmijournal.com/home).
ACI has a Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/ACIJournal
JAMIA, the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is now published by the BMJ Group - http://jamia.bmj.com/ AMIA members must access JAMIA from myamia.org. Non-members must gain access to the journal by purchasing an annual subscription for both online and print editions.
9. IMIA on social networking
IMIA has been experimenting with social networking and Web 2.0 technologies. The IMIA Web 2.0 Exploratory Taskforce welcomes the views of IMIA members and thw wider global community on the value of using such technologies, and suggestions for how IMIA could or should expand their use.
