1. Bids for the Post of IMIA Executive Director, 2011-2015
Notice from Prof. Reinhold Haux, IMIA President.

Interested and suitably qualified individuals or institutions are invited to submit bids for selection to the post of IMIA Executive Director for the period January 1, 2011 - December 31, 2015. The IMIA Executive Director will be the administrative head of the IMIA Office, and will himself/herself report to and be under the authority of the IMIA General Assembly and its elected persons. They will report directly to the IMIA President in the first instance.

The post of IMIA Executive Director is currently a part-time, remunerated position, which requires flexibility of work commitment and ability to travel internationally. It is expected that the amount of work necessary will grow during the period of the contract as the IMIA Office and Services are developed and expanded.

Applicants should submit a two-part document, of no more than 10 pages for each part. The first part should be the application for the post of IMIA Executive Director, and should include sufficient information on the applicant's background and experience, and their knowledge of IMIA, to demonstrate their suitability for the post. The second part should be a concept for the development of the IMIA Office and Services.

Concept Outline for Development and Nature of the IMIA Office
The IMIA Board expects that a primary role of the IMIA Executive Director will be to lead and oversee the expansion of the current IMIA secretariat to become a more comprehensive IMIA Office and set of services.

As part of the application document required, applicants should include a concept for the development of the IMIA Office and services. This should take account of:

  • the need for work to be organised and services delivered in a decentralised way, in consideration of the international scope of IMIA;
  • the need for a permanent address allowing the Office to be contacted immediately by other persons or organizations;
  • the need to integrate and subsume the existing services, and to develop different sections, such as member services, publication services, conference services, accreditation and international projects, in addition to the 'core tasks' on finances and preparing the IMIA Board and General Assembly meetings;
  • the need to take account of IMIA's financial constraints, and its status as a not-for-profit scientific organisation.
The concept should be in accordance with IMIA's goals and its Strategic Plan 'Towards IMIA 2015'. It has to be mentioned that IMIA's current Office address is 81 Boulevard de la Cluse, 1205 Geneva, Switzerland and so close to WHO and IFIP.

Decision Process
Bids must be received by midday CET on 30 April, 2010. They should be sent by email attachment (.PDF or .DOC format) to:
All eligible bids will be considered by a taskforce of IMIA Board members, who will recommend their selected candidate to the IMIA Board meeting in Vancouver BC, Canada on May 29, 2010.
